It Ends With Us

Colleen Hoover

Nothing tugs on the heartstrings more than a romance story. But with such complex and challenging themes of abuse, lost love, and heartbreak, this story encompasses much more than just romance. This is a love story about overcoming tragic circumstances and putting yourself first.

Originally published in 2016, the novel dramatically rose in popularity during the pandemic when creators were taking to social media platforms, particularly TikTok, to discuss and critique books as well as other topics of interest.

It’s easy to understand why Colleen Hoover’s standout novel has garnered so much interest and praise. It’s beautifully written and tackles difficult themes in a heartbreaking, but necessary, way. With this being said, it’s important to note that some elements of the story may be triggering for readers. So, we recommend doing some research before purchasing the book and, most importantly, take care of yourself when reading it.

Heartbreaking and exquisitely written, Hoover’s touching novel of desire, lost loves and second chances focuses on a brilliantly realised love triangle and how we must always live with the ghosts of the past

Set in Boston, the story follows the protagonist, Lily Bloom, a young college graduate who meets Ryle Kincaid, a resident surgeon. Despite having an immediate attraction, both characters want different things and part ways, until six months later when Lily hires Ryle’s sister to work in her newly opened flower shop. Immediately, they fall in love and start a romantic relationship.

What follows is a heartbreaking series of events that echo the horrifying abuse of her mother by her father that Lily witnessed as a child. Bring into the mix a long-lost friend and love interest, a young man called Atlas, whom she supported and befriended as a teen, and the complications become even deeper.

The ending is beautiful and necessary. I could not recommend this book more

If you enjoy reading It Ends With Us, you will be pleased to hear that there is a sequel that picks up right from the ending, called It Starts With Us. We don’t want to give away any spoilers, but the highly-rated novel is another emotionally charged, can’t-put-the-book-down read.

Colleen Hoover has written three other series of novels: ‘Slammed’, ‘Hopeless’ and ‘Maybe Someday’, as well as 11 standalone books.
